At Monticello Prep School our goal is academic excellence combined with a love of learning. Our dedicated, exceptionally skilled faculty, along with small class size and learning environment, make it possible for Monticello School to offer the renowned Core Knowledge Curriculum (TM). This rigorous curriculum provides age appropriate study of Western civilization and its arts and sciences, including literature, visual art, music, theatre, history, social studies, geography, science, in addition to reading, writing and mathematics. The curriculum is enhanced by study of world cultures. The result is a content rich curriculum that encourages inclusion and honors diversity, assuring the global awareness needed for success in today’s ever-changing world. Core Knowledge is a specific, coherent and cumulative curriculum that outlines what every child should learn in language arts and literature, history and geography, mathematics, science, music and the visual arts.

The Core Knowledge Curriculum (TM) has been repeatedly researched and proven to dramatically accelerate both student achievement and enjoyment of learning, as documented in more than a thousand Core Knowledge (TM) schools across the country as well as independent studies by organizations such as Johns Hopkins University.  Don't be confused by schools who claim to offer "Core Classes" or whose classes address "Core Curriculum." There is only one true, trademarked "Core Knowledge Curriculum (TM)" and that is what we are very proud to provide at Monticello Preparatory School. The following link will take you to The Core Knowledge Foundation web site which provides in depth information regarding our the Core Knowledge Curriculum (TM). www.coreknowledge.org

Because Monticello is committed to providing an education that truly encourages global awareness, in addition to the requirements outlined by the Core Knowlege Curriculum (TM), we provide age appropriate classes in Latin, Spanish and French beginning in Kindergarten. Students receive technology classes that develop computer skills and familiarize students with commonly used programs such as Word, Excel and Power Point.

Monticello Preparatory School is strongly committed to supporting its curriculum with frequent field trips. These field trips offer students the opportunity to experience first hand aspects of cultural and historical interest, scientific concepts and artistic beauty that they have studied at school. Major field trips at Monticello take place approximately twice monthly. The school also visits local libraries approximately twice each month. Previous field trips have included excursions to places of interest such as The Ocean Institute, San Juan Capistrano, a Whale Watch Cruise, The Los Angeles Times, The La Brea Tar Pits, The Getty Villa, The Los Angeles Science Center, Olvera Street via Metro-Rail, Griffith Observatory, The Reagan Library, Rancho Camulos, The Los Angeles Museum of Art, Nickleodeon Studios, Mission San Fernando, The Getty Museum, The Huntington Library and many more. We are of the firm belief that these experiences bring the students' learning experiences to life in a manner that simply cannot be duplicated in the classroom. Just ask any Monticello student...We love our field trips!!
