Supporting Family

By providing a full day, 8:30 AM to 5:30 P.M. schedule, that includes Tutoring and Study Hall during school hours, we are able to ensure more quality family time. By dismissing students at the end of the day with their school assignments completed, parents and children are able to relax and enjoy each other’s company during the evening hours, rather than laboring over home work assignments. This schedule also relieves two career families of the worrisome and expensive task of obtaining “after-school” care. For many two career families, Monticello has become known as their “Dream School.”  Students are safe and secure throughout the lengthened day within the Monticello learning environment.

The lengthened school day encourages more learning and academic achievement. Students complete school assignments under the supervision of the Monticello Faculty during Study Hall. This process ensures efficient use of study time and in depth learning.  Yet, schools days are well balanced with plenty of Arts and Sports and Field Trip activities making for an exciting, fun-filled and interesting day.

Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, told the Associated Press, ”Young people in other countries are going to school 25, 30 percent longer than our students here. I want to just level the  playing field.. the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom.” Monticello Preparatory School is one of a growing population of schools to provide the lengthened day of which Mr. Duncan speaks.  Mr. Duncan’s comments were made in response to U.S. schools plummeting in world-wide rankings to 19th, far behind top ranking countries such as Korea, Finland, China and Canada. Mr. Duncan continued,  ”This is an absolute wake-up call for America. The results are extraordinarily challenging to us and we have to deal with the brutal truth. We have to get much more serious about …education.”

We believe Monticello’s very high standardized test scores are the result of our profoundly esteemed curriculum, our extraordinarily qualified faculty and finally, our cutting edge, lengthened day policy. The lengthened day policy has become a hallmark of the Monticello Preparatory School education.
